What makes a person unstoppable? I’m sure it’s different for each individual, but in my case I simply don’t look back at some of the most unconscionable, ruthless things that have happened to me, and I don’t waste time feeling sorry for myself. The word victim is not in my consciousness. If anything, I use those contemptible events to strengthen my future. Take the time my stepfather and mentor, the man with whom I first started my RV business, ended up stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from me, forcing me to face creditors and pay employees with my personal credit card. I did not let that stop me from living my dream as a top entrepreneur and CEO/Founder of RV sales of Broward. I also did this in spite of being told by my male counterparts that I should stay home and “bake cookies”.
When a homeless man I was trying to help stabbed me twenty-one times and left me for dead, he should have known better than to pick me as his target. Though the healing process was long and excruciatingly painful, I pushed through it to become a woman to be reckoned with. I concentrated on the business of RV Sales and we grew strong and steady, reaching sales of eighteen million. I exposed an industry-wide lending scam and, though pressured and bullied, I refused to sell out. Lenders retaliated and RV Sales of Broward was pronounced financially dead in September 2008.
I won’t stay down. I’ve been crawling and scratching my way back, never giving up and always keeping my eye on the top. It was my gift of innovation that enabled me to expand my business while so many other competitors were closing their doors. That innovation, as well as my survival instinct and entrepreneurship, pulled RV Sales of Broward out of the grave that others tried to put it in. But my accomplishments reach far beyond the RV industry. Every time I have been knocked down, I’ve gotten right back up. Today is no different, which led me to author my inspirational memoir Unstoppable: Surviving is Just the Beginning and become a business consultant, motivational speaker and philanthropist.
I am set on bringing my “unstoppable” message of hope and survival to anyone who is facing hard times. The message is simple yet powerful: only you direct your own present and your own future. Unstoppable is a testament to that philosophy and an invitation to readers to make their own personal commitment to not only survive, but to thrive!
